Mayumi Hamada is a movement artist of amazing talent and unique creation. Much of her inspiration comes from her experience with the physically and mentally handicaped in Japan. Yet she uses the often taboo looked upon community in Japan as something beatiful and powerful. Above is her performance in Osaka (1998) with music by Alan Nakagawa and below (1998) is another collaboration with Nakagawa in Kobe City, Japan. Both photos were taken by Toru Suzuki. |
