The Getty Center asked us to create a performance about LA. They gave us four weeks to create it. The finalwork incorporated sound, video, slide projection, movement, poetry, telephones, a bicycle, and fortune cookies. Steve Irvin and I worked five days a week on this project and produced a series of short performances about LA culture we felt was missing at the Getty.
These cultural items included a photo survey of garage doors, images of Marvin Gayes home, a blues guitar solo with a bicycle ride on stage while images of local eateries flashed on the two story back wall of the stage and a poem recitation in chance operations by reading fortunes from a dozen fortune cookies. Alessandra was not in town so we screened a video tape of her giving English lessons.Brandy could not be there but we called her live and she recited a poem over a speaker phone. A good time was had by all.
